November 2005 Saul is enjoying 4th grade at Perry Elementary School this year. He is
fully-included with Resource support. We are very proud of Saul's academic
growth. We have seen a big improvement with his reading and writing skills
over the past few months! Saul's self-esteem continues to grow as his academic
and social skills grow.
In his free time, Saul keeps very active. After school Saul is involved in
skateboard lessons and swimming classes. Saul continues to progress in Tae
Kwon Do and recently earned his Blue Advanced belt. On the weekends Saul is on
an Ice Skating Team and he participates in community theater. Even with his
busy schedule Saul manages to be on of the biggest helpers in our family. He
is always available to assist where and whenever anyone needs him!

July 2005: Saul recently tested for his GREEN BELT in Tae Kwon Do. He was also
excepted into the Leadership program at the Martial Arts USA Studio. Master
Kim said he was very impressed with Saul progress and his commitment to the
program. We are all excited about Saul's progress and his continued growth in
self-esteem.
June 2005 Saul had a wonderful first year with our family. He joined our family as a shy
and quiet little boy. Now Saul is probably one of the more out-going Silcock
boys. Saul is involved with many community activities. He is an active member
of the MYART Children's Theater group. He recently completed the production of
"The Wizard of Oz" and will begin rehearsals of "Anna and the King if Siam" in
September. It was amazing to watch the effort Saul put in to learn the various
dance steps and songs. Saul also learned that as part of the ensemble he
needed to work together cooperatively with the other actors in order for the
show to turn out right. Saul enjoyed acting on stage so much that he is
anxiously awaiting his next performance.
Saul is also an Orange Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He takes
classes three to four times a week. Finally Saul is taking swimming lessons
with the Golden West Swim Club. Last year Saul did not know how to swim at
all. This summer Saul is such a good swimmer that he will be taking surfing
lessons at the end of August.
Saul also did very well this school year as
well. He was a fully-included third grader. He and George were in the same
class at Moffett Elementary School. Usually the schools don't put siblings
together with the same teacher, but in this case the boys were very supportive
of each other. At the beginning of the school year Saul had only very basic
academic skills. Now as the school year is ending, Saul is able to read and
write. Saul even learned how to sign his name in cursive. Saul has also made
friends at school. After school he and his friends often visit each others
homes. What a big growth spurt for Saul! We are excited about his academic and
social progress.
Saul's adoption was finalized in April. We
are so happy that Saul is our son officially! I think we were all relieved to
know that the long wait was over. After the court proceeding we (Saul, mom and
dad) went out to breakfast and for a trip to Toys R Us as is the adoption day
tradition in our family. Of course Saul thought the trip to Toys R Us was
probably only second best to finally having a "real mom and dad."

 Saul's Adoption - April 2005
September 2004
Saul
(10) is
in third grade at Moffett Elementary School. He is a
fully-included in a regular classroom with the support of an instructional
assistant.
Saul
is a delightful little boy who has been through a lot of unpleasant
experiences in his short life. Thankfully Saul is a survivor and
maintains a positive attitude about life. We were
actually matched with Saul over a year ago but then the original match
fell through due to circumstances beyond the control of our family and
Saul. During the past year we thought about Saul frequently and
prayed for his happiness. Sadly, we weren't aware that Saul's life was not
going well. Then in May we received a call from the county asking us if we were
still interested in parenting Saul.
We were so happy that the social workers remembered our interest in Saul
and thought of us when Saul needed an emergency placement. Saul officially joined our family in June
2004. We hope to complete his adoption during the month
of December 2004.
Saul
enjoyed his first summer as a member of the Silcock family. Saul's
life previously had been pretty sheltered. He had very few
experiences in the community and with other children. In spite of
his past, Saul adapted well to the busy summer schedule in the Silcock
household.
Saul
attended various summer camps and even received several "Camper of
the Day" awards due to his enthusiastic participation. Saul's absolute favorite
camp experience was at Camp James. There were so many cool outdoor
activities including daily opportunities to go to Wild Rivers. Saul also
enjoyed several sessions of Science Adventure Camp. In between camps
Saul was able to visit Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, The Discovery
Museum and Soak City a few times! It is a pleasure to watch
Saul experience life. We are hopeful that with proper support and
encouragement Saul may catch-up in the some of the areas in which he is
currently delayed.
