June 2005
Michael recently finished 6th grade. Despite of his joining the family in
the middle of the school year, Michael had a "TREMENDOUS" year at Sowers Middle
School, just ask him! Michael received Student of the Month and very good grades
this year. Next year Michael is scheduled to enroll in some slightly more
difficult classes as he continues to make excellent growth academically. Michael
continues to work hard on his social skills and has recently developed some good
friendships with a couple of other middle school students.
This summer Michael will be attending several summer camp programs. He will
spend two weeks at
Camp
Bravo - Performing Arts Camp
honing his acting skills.

He
will also
Pali Adventure Camp where he will attend
specialty classes in becoming a Rock Star!
Speaking of becoming a Rock Star, Michael wrote a song with our good friend,
Dave Nachmanoff. He
is really looking forward to helping Dave record this song for inclusion on our
second family CD. Check out the lyrics of Michael's song!
My name is Michael Silcock and I come from Kazakhstan I live in California, that’s not where my life began When I was only two years old, was left all on my own The police took me off the streets and to the baby home
I was only little, can’t remember many things But I know that after I turned five they taught me how to sing
Chorus: I’ve traveled many miles, to sing for everyone Now life is so enjoyable, and I can’t get enough
As time went by my voice improved, I practiced all day long I sang along with backing tapes they made of Russian songs I only sang in contests, wherever I was sent I won money for the orphanage, and met the President Of course I went to school and I studied many things But after school I felt just like a rock star when I’d sing
(Repeat Chorus)
I went to Carolina, but it didn’t quite work out Then I joined the Silcock family, where they’re loving and they’re loud At Christmas time they gave me my own music machine I’ve sung on stage in concerts, and on the TV screen Life is very different now, here in the USA And if I keep on singing I might be a star someday
(Repeat Chorus) |

Letter from Michael at camp:

May 2005:
Michael
(12) joined our family in December 2004. Originally from Kazakhstan, Michael
came to California after spending 18 months with his first adoptive family
in North Carolina. When Michael's first adoptive placement didn't work out, we
were fortunate enough to be matched with Michael. We feel blessed to now be
Michael's "forever parents." Michael is an out-going teenager who loves to
sing and act. While living in an orphanage in Eastern Europe, Michael won
several singing contests! In California he takes commercial acting lessons and
participates in a community theater group. Michael just recently finished a
production of "Wizard of Oz." We call him our "famous man from Kazakhstan!"
Michael is an honor roll student at Sowers Middle School where he will soon
graduate from 6th grade. Michael enjoys playing sports, and watching movies but
loves riding his bike most of all!
