Samuel (12) joined our family with adoptive brother, Joseph, in August. He was originally adopted from Kazakhstan as a young child. Despite living with his first adoptive family for about eight years, he never really settled in. Samuel is a quiet and sensitive boy. He can be very helpful around the house but also gets very upset when things don't seem "fair." Samuel does best when he knows the expectations and what the benefits are when he follows through on a request. While Joseph seems to act out from his hurt, Samuel seems to keep most of it inside. He often seems depressed. We are all working with Samuel on expressing his feelings. Slowly Samuel is opening up to me and selected family helpers. We are seeing more and more smiles and hearing playful laughter more often. I am spending a lot of time letting Samuel know that he is loved and accepted in our family. I am sure it will take some time to get him to believe it.
