November 2005
Paul had a great summer participating in a variety of camp programs. He said his favorite camp was "Special Camp for Special Kids." Paul says he enjoys this camp so much because he "gets a teenager for a counselor." Now that camp season is over, Paul will be returning to his gymnastic classes after school.

Paul returned to Peterson Elementary School this year as a fifth grade student. This will be Paul's last year in elementary school and he is already talking about his transition to middle school. Paul is enjoying school and is improving on his ability to work independently with his classroom work at school and on his homework at home.

Wow!  What a change a school year can make.  As Paul completes his last week of 4th grade, we can't even believe how much academic growth he has made.  Paul's ability to focus and concentrate has really improved this year.  Paul is able to read, write sentences, and he is even beginning to learn his multiplication tables.  This year Paul usually started his homework without compliant, he learned how to do research on the computer and how to set-up and collect data on a science project. Paul particularly loved completing his science project as science is his favorite subject.  In fact Paul enjoys science so much he participated in an after school science program all school year long.  Paul is even trying to complete some of his class work independently without so much dependence on his one-to-one instructional aide. We are so proud of Paul's academic accomplishments and are eager to watch his continued growth.

This summer Paul will be attending several camps this year including a week with the Dana Point Ocean Institute attending the Tall Ship Adventures.  Paul will also attending Science Adventures Camp, Camp James, and a week of residential camp with Ability First.   In Paul's free time we know we will find Paul riding his bicycle around the neighborhood.  Paul is also especially looking forward to shopping for school clothes at the end of summer.  Even as a little guy Paul always wanted to dress fashionably!  Grandma Sue promised to take Paul this year to select some new outfits...Paul is counting the days!

September 2004

Paul (10) is in fourth grade at Peterson Elementary School. We are so proud of the academic and social growth that Paul has made over the past several years. Paul is starting to develop friendships and he even received some telephone calls from his school friends this summer. This is a tremendous breakthrough for Paul who has always had difficulty in this area.

Paul will also be beginning his second year of the SCATS gymnastics program in September. Paul has not only improved with his physical skills but again with his social skills and his ability to follow directions.

He is actively involved with SCATS several times a week and his upper body strength is phenomenal. With Paul’s motivation and natural talent, don’t be surprised if you see Paul participating in the Para-Olympics one day.

This summer Paul participated in several "very cool" summer camps. He attended Camp James for the first time. He LOVED it as all of the counselors were so positive and energetic. Paul also enjoyed Day Camp at Mission San Juan Capistrano. At this day camp Paul learned about American Indians and created many interesting crafts. Paul also attended Camp Footprints for the fourth year in a row. Attending camps this summer has helped Paul increase his independence in his self-care and social skills. We are delighted to watch self-confidence and self-esteem develop!
