Well Marc has been with our family for a week. He is delightful and sweet boy
and we are delighted to have him join our family. Although autisitc, Marc seems
to be quite interested in the social activities of the other boys and is
starting to join them in play. Marc seems to be settling in quite well and is
beginning to learn everyone's name in the family. In turn, the boys are excited
to show Marc around and to share their toys. Its amazing how everyone tries to
help when a new brother joins our family. Marc is attending Perry Elementary
School as a second grade student. Marc is an excellent reader and writer.
Marc loves school and is up early in the morning, before everyone else, dressed
and waiting for the school bus.

Here is what KFMB Adopt 8 had to say about Marc:
Blossoming Boy Up For Adoption

If you've ever wondered what kind of difference some love and attention can
make, read this next story. It's about a boy up for adoption who didn't utter a
word until someone took the time to teach him. He has a lot to contribute to
this world.
To look at seven-year-old Marc today, it's hard to believe he didn't even speak
a year ago.
"This year, these last 12 months, it's like he's woken up. He's just
blossoming," said social worker Lisa Gutherie.
Years of neglect and isolation kept Marc from learning the basics.
"He's had to almost start over since he came into our care. He's really had to
learn how to do everything from the beginning. How to talk, in fact, he wasn't
even speaking last year," explained Lisa.
He is a true success story and testament to what some love and attention can do
for a child.
His teachers have been simply amazed at his progress.
"The school has called me and said what did you do to him? He's a whole new
person. He's a joy to be around, and he's eager to learn," Lisa added.
And ironically, some of his best teachers have been other children. He's learned
a lot by example and a family with kids in the house would be a helpful bonus
for him.
"It's actually helped him quite a bit...helpful with his speech, helped him
begin to understand social connections and relationships," continued Lisa.
And he's got plenty of love to give.
"He's always been a really affectionate child. He loves affection, and he'll see
affection. He likes to hold your hand," Lisa said.
And it's that kind of loving attention that's helping marc thrive and even
though he can't voice everything he feels, the language is just a matter of
time.
"Even though his speech isn't great - he reads tremendously. You can put
something in front of him and he can read all the words," noted Lisa. "Sometimes
he can't speak a full sentence, but he can spell it out to you or read a full
sentence."
And one thing he makes clear is that he's all boy.
"He likes boy things. He likes balls, comic books and trucks and cars," Lisa
explained. "He loves Spiderman, and if we would let him wear his Spiderman cape
all the time and to school he would be really happy."
But Marc is truly the hero of his own story. Six months ago he was afraid to
even go down a slide. And now he slides with the greatest of ease. And that's
not the only fear he's overcome.
"He used to be afraid of other kids or getting involved with other people...and
now he's not afraid anymore. In fact, he's been walking up to all kids at the
park wanting to be their friend," said Lisa.
And he'd really like to be someone's son and with the right family the sky's the
limit for Marc.
"It's been really energizing this year to see the growth he's been able to
make," Lisa added.
Imagine what he could do with a family behind him.
