October 2005
Kavin had a fantastic summer.  He participated in many camp programs and did great!  Kavin also enjoyed several trips to Catalina with grandma Sue.  Many people who remembered Kavin from last summer commented on how much Kavin was talking and how clear is speech is getting.  Kavin has really grown-up over the last year.  We have noticed that most of all, Kavin's social skills are so much more developed.  While he used to be a very passive and quiet boy, today Kavin is very outgoing and has much more of a leadership role with his younger brothers.

This year Kavin is fully-included in the third grade.  He enjoys school and is even more willing to do his homework without too much prompting.  Kavin continues to be involved with MYART theater group on the weekends.  He is currently rehearsing for the productions of "The King and I."

Kavin just completed second grade at Perry Elementary School. Kavin is a fully-included student and enjoys school very much. He had an excellent year making progress academically and in the area of speech and language. Kavin is looking forward to third grade next year.

Kavin continues to be involved in community theater and recently completed the production of "Wizard of Oz." In the fall Kavin will start rehersals for the play "Anna and the King of Siam." Kavin loves the theater both as an actor and as part of the audience. We have season tickets to children's productions at several local theaters. As a result, Kavin happily attends at least two plays a month. Kavin also takes swimming lessons twice a week.

This summer Kavin is looking forward to participating in a variety of camp programs. Kavin will attend several weeks of Camp James and Science Adventures Camp. Kavin will also participate in his annual trip to Muscular Dystrophy Camp. It should be a great summer for Kavin as he loves the camp experience and most especially meeting new friends.

Kavin
(9) is attending  Perry School as a fully-included second grade student. Kavin is doing well in school. He is most excited about learning to read. Kavin just loves books and going to the library. Kavin has developed many friendships since attending class with his typical peers. Kavin's language skills have improved so much this past school year. Kavin certainly is no longer the shy quiet boy we used to know. Despite his muscular dystrophy, Kavin is also becoming quite the athlete. He loves kickball and soccer and is starting to learn how to play basketball too. Kavin is frequently the first child on the playground to make sure he is part of the kickball game.

Kavin also loves theater; given a choice of any activity Kavin will always ask to go to see a play! He has seen many plays this year but by far his favorite was "Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat." He went to this play with grandma Sue, as well as with mom and dad. When the play was over, Kavin wanted to see it again! Kavin also had the opportunity to see a major production of "Oliver!" and "Annie" this year. Kavin has season tickets to the La Mirada Children's Theater and loves attending every performance.

Kavin is involved with MYART children’s theater and SCATS gymnastics. These activities have helped Kavin with his coordination while channeling his natural talent.
