August 2005
Jarrod had an excellent summer. We were
especially excited that Jarrod was able to participate in many day camp programs
with little or no extra support. Jarrod was also very successful participating
in the Jay Nolan Sleepover Camp Program. Jarrod won several awards at the
various camps including "Most Friendly," "Most Enthusiastic" and "Most
Helpful." What a BIG improvement over last year. Even Jarrod noticed that he
wasn't being "kicked out of camp" this summer. Its been a long haul for Jarrod
to gain some self-regulation of his behavioral challenges and we are all very
proud of his efforts. Jarrod said he enjoyed "A Pirate's Life" camp program and
"Surf Camp" the most. In fact, during the last two weeks of summer Jarrod even
learned how to surf in the ocean, including standing up on the
surfboard! Jarrod is looking forward to starting school next week and
beginning his skateboard riding lessons after school.

June 2005
Well he did it! Hard to believe that Jarrod got through second grade alive! Yes,
Jarrod is now officially a third grader. He had a wonderfully understanding and
patient teacher, Ms. Newton, who was willing to work with Jarrod and his little
idiosyncrasies. Jarrod also had the support of a classroom instructional aide,
Ms. Lillard, who had experience with students diagnosed with Aspergers autism.
Because of Ms. Newton's and Ms. Lillard's hard work Jarrod had a very productive
year. Toward the end of the school year Jarrod began completing his class work
with little or no modification.
Jarrod also
made a very good friend at school, Eric, who even comes over on the weekends to
play. We look forward to working with the Peterson Elementary School staff to
help Jarrod have a smooth transition to third grade in the fall.
During the summer Jarrod will participate in several camp program. Jarrod is
especially excited about the
Science
Adventures Camp. He has
participated in the Science Adventures after school program all year and really
enjoyed the curriculum.
Jarrod's new interest is spies! Jarrod is reading
any book he can get his hands on that has ANYTHING to do with spies and spying.
Jarrod belongs to a Scholastic Book Club and every month he gets a new package
in the mail with spy accessories. Jarrod loves receiving this package and often
asks the mailman if he if he has "a secret package to Jarrod Silcock." Its
always nice to see Jarrod excited about learning. Jarrod will also continue to
work on safe bicycling skills over the summer as he continues to take long bike
rides to the beach.

September 2004
Jarrod
(8) is attending Peterson Elementary School. He is a second grade student.
Jarrod is very smart. He really enjoys history. He especially loves reading
history books and would read all day long if he was given a choice. In school
Jarrod is learning cursive writing and multiplication facts! Jarrod is happy to
go to school
but please don't ask him to do any type of paperwork more than once!
Last
summer Jarrod was involved in several summer camps. Jarrod did especially well
in camp programs where he received lots of individual attention. Jarrod also
loves to visit his grandparents house where he loves to look through the toys
his uncle James played with when he was a boy. Jarrod will resume swim lessons
in September. He is excited to get back to swimming as he hopes to make the
Golden West Swim Team before the end of the year.
