 August 8 (2000)

August 2005
Dylan has enjoyed his summer attending Camp James. Dylan made many friends and looked forward to camp every day. Since spending his summer at Camp James we have seen so much positive growth in Dylan's social development and language skills. Dylan is now using his words to communicate rather than getting frustrated. He is initiating positive interactions with his peers and is much more willing to try new activities. During the past two months Dylan has also really improved his ability to share with his friends and to patiently wait for his turn. Dylan's overall growth and improvement was so apparent to the Camp James staff that Dylan received a nice plaque and award for "Camp James Camper of the Year." We are very proud of Dylan and know that the skills he learned at Camp James will help him as he enters kindergarten next month.

Dylan will be graduating from Vineyard Preschool at the end of summer and transitioning to Perry Elementary School as a Pre-K student in the fall. We can't believe that Dylan has grown up so fast.  It will certainly be a sad day for us to leave the Vineyard Preschool family as we have had children in the program since 1999! Of course, we never know what the future of the Silcock family holds.....

Dylan has made spectacular progress in speech and language although he still gets very frustrated when he can't make himself understood.

This summer, after school, Dylan plans to spend his days at Soak City and Wild Rivers. Dylan loves anything to do with the water although he is a little tentative about the beach, he says he doesn't like the sand touching his feet!

Dylan will also be involved in a dance class once a week for children ages 3-5. Dylan is still a very active and busy child. Thankfully we have not seen any noticeable decline in Dylan's physical skills and we pray that he continues to maintain stable health.

Tanner & Dylan

July 2004
Dylan (4) is really growing up. We can't believe the changes in Dylan since he first joined our family in May 2003. Despite his diagnosis of Duchene’s Muscular Dystrophy, Dylan is an energetic and active little guy.  He continues to attend Vineyard Christian Preschool with the support of an instructional assistant. Dylan has lots of friends at school and is thrilled every time he is invited to a birthday party!.

Dylan has spent much of his summer weekends at the local water parks. He loves splashing in the water and going down the water slides. Dylan is definitely a little guy on the move. When we turn our backs he is often running down the hall or climbing on the furniture. Although Dylan's ability to walk is growing increasingly unsteady, he continues to want to be as independent as possible. His favorite phrase is "I want to do it all by myself!" Certainly this attitude will help Dylan as his disease progresses.

Dylan favorite year round activity is the monthly play dates at Shane’s Inspiration and Aiden’s Place where the accessible playground equipment allows him easy access all over the park.
