Chris continues to attend
SUCCESS Day Program Monday through Friday. He
recently attended a volunteer orientation at the Orange County Animal
Shelter where he hopes to become a regular volunteer with the homeless
animals. Chris also enjoys helping at the Stanton Senior Center and the
Orange County Food Bank. In Chris's free time he is actively involved in
acting lesson with the South Coast Repertory Theater. Chris also enjoys
helping his younger brothers and is very involved with the whole family.

June 2005 Chris just recently joined the
SUCCESS Day Program.
He was excited to be working along side his brothers at the various
volunteer sites. Chris has always been such an enthusiastic volunteer and
the SUCCESS Day Program has a variety of places where Chris' services are
needed. Chris will continue with his Coastline College classes in the
fall. In his spare time Chris enjoys visiting us and hanging out with his
brothers. We know we will be calling on Chris very soon to be our official
"hospital visitor" as some of the younger boys have up-coming scheduled
surgeries requiring some in-patient care. We know we can depend on Chris
to be there any time night or day to support his brothers and our family.
Chris and Jonathan enjoy attending Church together and are attempting to
get a Bible Study established at their home. In the mean time, Chris and
Jonathan are looking into residential Christian retreats for week or two
during the summer.
We are really proud of Chris. Since living outside of our family home, and
receiving
Supported Living Services,
he has really grown up. Chris is learning how to budget his money and how
to complete some basic banking. Chris is also learning how to do his own
laundry and how to keep his home tidy.
Chris receives support from our good friend, Jeanne. Jeanne and Chris are
roommates. She supports Chris 24-hours a day, and teaches him how to be as
independent as he is able. She helps with his menu planning, scheduling
and attending his medical appointments, and many other tasks that Chris
needs to live in his own home. We surely appreciate Jeanne's commitment to
Chris and we look forward to watching his continued progress toward
increased independence.

Chris Is Who They Call Chris & Jonathan Silcock & Dave Nachmanoff
May 30, 2005 |
 |
Chorus: When his brothers are in the hospital Chris is who they call Sitting by their bedside patiently Or waiting in the hall He was there for Barry, there for Justin,
And he was there for Paul When his brothers are in the hospital Chris is who they call
When Paul went in for surgery It was his first time He was scared to leave his brothers But Chris said, “You’ll be fine” “I’ll be here when you wake up I’ll hold your hand and smile We won’t leave you here alone We’ll be with you all the while
(repeat Chorus) Now Justin needs dialysis They kept him overnight Chris was with him all day long Made sure he was alright The staff they got to know them both They knew Chris helped him heal So sometimes they would offer Chris A break and a hot meal
(Repeat Chorus) Bridge: Justin and Paul, finally came home
We lost Barry, but he was never alone
(Repeat Chorus)

September 2004 Christopher
(26) had a busy summer 2004 as usual. The best part of the summer, Chris
says, was the big birthday bash he shared with his brother Dylan (4).
Chris loves the fact that he and Dylan share the same birthday. Throughout
the summer, Chris kept a positive attitude in spite of his mobility
problems. As a wheelchair user, Chris is completely dependent on his
wheelchair to get around. Chris worked very hard all summer trying to get
his wheelchair fixed. His wheelchair was in the shop almost every other
week. Finally the repair people said the could not be repaired any further
and we began working with our insurance to get Chris a new wheelchair. We
are happy to report that we have received over half of the funding
required make the co-payment toward the purchase a new power wheelchair
for Chris. We appreciate all of the donors who helped support Chris. Once
Chris receives his new power wheelchair these frustrating and
unpredictable wheelchair breakdowns should be history!
Even with constant
wheelchair breakdowns Chris managed to visit with Barry in the hospital at
least five days a week. Chris has returned to Coastline Community College
as a part-time student for the Fall semester. He will also return to his
volunteer work at the local elementary schools once school resumes.
SEPTEMBER 2004
AUGUST
2004:
Chris continues to volunteer at Vineyard Christian Preschool. He
also volunteers with the local elementary schools when they are in
session. Chris puts in at least 30-volunteer hours a week. Chris has a
passion for helping children, especially his brothers. If given the
opportunity, he would spend every minute of every day helping and
supporting his younger brothers. Chris has been a wonderful help during
Barry's long hospitalization. Everyday, without fail, Chris takes the bus
to visit Barry. In fact any time any of the Silcock brothers are in the
hospital we can always count on Chris to take time out of his busy
schedule to make a hospital visit. The local hospital staff know Chris on
a first name basis! The hospital administrative staff have called us
personally to tell us what a "wonderful advocate" Chris has been for his
brother Barry.
FEBRUARY
2004: Chris has also taken on the role as “personal trainer” for our
dogs. Chris was instrumental in helping Charlie (formally “Fat Bassett”)
shed over 30 pounds in the excess weight he carried when he joined our
family. Every day Chris walks all of the dogs around the neighborhood for
at least two hours! The dogs love Chris so much that he can barely visit
the house without the dogs going crazy.
Chris is also involved in community theater productions as well as acting
in films and television. Chris is looking forward to the upcoming
rehearsals for the MYART production of "Fiddler on the Roof."
